very quick, sloppy thing I did for a sprint prompt on the LU discord server. Cleaned up the colors a little afterwards, but had no motivation left to work on it further :')

I am riddled with ailments, but I stay silly!
#ask#non mdzs#My health journey has been: Hernia -> acid reflux -> Vocal pain due to aforementioned reflux -> chest infection.#I'm terrified to know what's about to hit me next. Please let it be something kind. PLEASE.#The consequence of living with linguists is that you'll wake up with a wacked up voice -#suddenly you're sitting you down in front of a program called something like Praat having your shimmer and jitter levels calibrated.#They gave me a GRBAS of 33012. I have a fun thing called a pitch break where a whole octave just does not exist.#My vocal pain was bad enough I ended up seeing a speech pathologist and that whole experience was super neat!#I learnt a lot about voice - to be honest I might make a little comic on it after some more research. Fascinating stuff.#For example; your mental perception of our voice modulates the muscles of the vocal folds and larynx.#meaning that when you do have changes (inflammation = more mass = lower frequency)#your brain automatically attempts to correct it to what it 'should sound like'. Leading to a lot more vocal strain and damage!#And it gets really interesting for trans voice care as well - because the mental perception of one's voice isn't based on an existing sampl#So a good chunk of trans voice training is also done with the idea of finding one's voice and retraining the brain to accept it. Neat!#Parkinsonial Voice also has this perception to musculature link! The perception is that they are talking at a loud/normal volume#but the actual voice is quite breathy and weak. So vocal training works on practicing putting more effort into the voice#and retraining the brain to accept the 'loud' voice as 'normal'.#Isn't the human body fascinating?#Anyhow; Now I have vocal exercises and strategies to reduce strain and promote healing.#Which is a lot better than my previous strategy of yelling AAAH in my car until my 'voice smoothed out'.#You can imagine the horror on the speech path's face. I am an informed creature now.#I'm my own little lab rat now. I love learning and researching. Welcome to my tag lab. Class is dismissed.#I'll be back later with a few more answered asks </3 despite everything I'm still going to work and I need the extra sleep.#Thank you for the well wishes! And if you read all of that info dump; thank you for that as well!

Totk Angst - "I told you I didn't like this outfit."
Random Toxic Puppet Zelink I drew because I just missed my lady and Master Puppet Zelda so much❤️
And...I'm gonna tell ya a secret: I am a bad person who enjoys drawing Link fu***d up and suffering way too much😩 Also, if you are wondering, Link is wearing the Depth outfit. The front piece was removed and placed on his leg... I needed the outfit "sexified" 🤣🤷‍♀️
I'd draw this outfit way more often if the hood didn't hide Link's facial expressions so much. It's really REALLY is my favorite TotK Armor Set! So...GOTH!! Glory to Puppet Zelda!

I think what chronically upsets me about TotK is that. So much of it could have been so good with so little change.
I am into Zelda as a sacrificial, wondrous and silenced creature who must literally carry the blade of the hero as a wound inside her forehead and silently wait to be humanized again --and the injustice of a kingdom built on such a premice doomed to repeat itself, especially if the kingdom was founded on such dubious grounds to begin with. I am into Ganondorf forcing the present to reckon with the past through the most violent clash, forsaking everything that made him a person while sinking down into petty vindictiveness until no connection and no humanity remains, even though independance was what he was trying to protect in the first place. I am into Link as somebody trying to hold onto his most important connection to the world he once knew being used to force him into a conflict that has ultimately nothing to do with him (sure that's SS again but, it could have been explored even further). I am into Rauru as this self-important, self-made king who used his own association to godhood to live out a power fantasy that refuses to ever be acknowledge as such, maybe compounded by the fact he is one of the last of his species and feel, himself, the crushing weight of their fading heritage?
I don't know, the Tears of the Kingdom or something????
But, it all tragically depends on one crucial thing, which is to allow hylians to be wrong sometimes.
And it's wild to me how all of this incredible potential to comment on the series' history and the characters' role in it is just. Flattened into nothing, because Good must be Good and Evil must be Evil, and Hyrule must be righteous at literally every cost --even if it means nervously rewriting their own history through convoluted logic that rejects conflict and depth and vulnerability at every turn.

Love Grows - Part 1
This is my take on teen dad Steve! It was just supposed to be a ficlet, but the word count is currently hovering at 4k and I'm not done, so this will be going up in parts. <3
Ao3 | Part 2
February '85
The rumors have been flying for weeks. It only took one cheerleader to see Steve Harrington out and about with a baby and soon enough the news was all over the school. Nevermind that no one else has even seen said baby, but just the one accusation is enough to send the rumor mill into production.
It's something that had piqued Eddie's interest, but he quickly attributed it to teenagers spreading drama, a fiction created for their own entertainment. That is, until the day Harrington shows up to school with the baby.
The halls are buzzing, more so than usual, and it only takes until second period for Eddie to realize why. The entire class breaks into whispers when Steve walks in with a baby carrier in one hand, a piece of paper in the other, and a diaper bag slung over his shoulder. The paper goes to the teacher, who reads it before saying something to Steve, and Eddie is so curious but unable to hear anything over the chatter in the room.
Eddie can’t take his eyes off Steve for the rest of the class. He watches as the carrier finds a home on the floor, right by Steve’s desk, and Eddie has a perfect view of the little, rosy-cheeked baby girl from his seat two rows behind Steve (at least, Eddie’s assuming it’s a girl. The blanket tucked around her is a soft pink, so-). He sees every time Steve leans over to check on her, sees how her big eyes flick up to look at him, how she smiles around the pacifier in her mouth.
It makes Eddie go all gooey inside; he's always loved kids, always hoped to find a guy who is good with them, and seeing Harrington being so attentive only increases the low-key crush he has on the other guy (he knows it’s a little pathetic, but Steve is very attractive, and Eddie is very gay, sue him). When the class ends, Eddie gathers his stuff slowly so he has an excuse to hang back a little and watch Steve interact with the baby some more, but soon enough the younger is also packed up and out the door.
Eddie doesn't see Steve again until later that day, when he's skipping out on 5th period and hears a baby crying as he passes by a closed classroom door. He peeks in through the window and sees Harrington pacing slowly while holding the baby against his shoulder, one arm supporting her from the bottom as his free hand rubs circles into her back.
For a moment Eddie thinks about walking on, about just leaving Steve alone as he comforts his wailing child, but the cries pull hard on Eddie's heartstrings and he finds himself opening the door and slipping inside.
"Everything okay?" he asks, and Steve looks up in surprise before his expression shifts into something unreadable.
"Yeah, we're fine. She's just extra fussy because she's teething. I came in here because I don't want to disturb anyone else."
Eddie hums and goes to the nearby diaper bag, starts digging through it and is surprised when Steve doesn't tell him to stop. He finds a little bottle of numbing gel and smears some onto his pinky before sliding it into the baby's still wailing mouth, and carefully rubs it over her gums as he coos at her.
"I know, honey, it hurts so bad. It's gonna be okay, though, just you wait."
He glances up to see Steve staring at him, his expression curious, and Eddie suddenly feels overexposed.
"My last neighbor had two jobs and three small kids, so I have a little experience with babies," Eddie explains, needing to fill the sudden silence that falls as the baby calms. His finger is still in her mouth, and he feels no desire to remove it, especially once she starts gnawing on it gently. Steve glances down at his girl before giving Eddie a soft smile, and Eddie's heart flips in his chest.
"That's more than I have, at least. Thanks."
"No worries, man. What, uh- what's her name?"
"Rosemary," Steve says, humming when the baby makes a soft noise. "At least, that's what I'm changing it to, as soon as I'm able."
The warmth that had settled in Eddie's stomach sours a little at Steve's declaration, and as he pulls his finger from the baby's mouth he can't help biting out "And her mom is okay with you changing her name?"
The atmosphere in the room changes as Steve's face crumbles, and Eddie knows he's said something wrong.
"Her mom didn't want anything to do with her," Steve replies softly, and oh no, Eddie instantly feels like a piece of shit. He'd heard the rumors that some girl had just dumped the baby on him, but he didn't think they were true.
"Shit, I'm so sorry, man. I didn't mean to assume anything."
"It's okay. No one really knows about the whole… situation."
There's an awkward pause before Eddie asks "So, Rosemary. Your choice wouldn't happen to be inspired by a certain Edison Lighthouse song, would it?" He smiles when Steve blushes, the pink dusting his face so sweetly as he shrugs.
"It was my grandma's favorite song, and a lot of my happy memories are with her, so... I've already started calling her Rosie, so she'll be used to it."
"It’s a good name," Eddie hums, rubbing his thumb over Rosie's tiny eyebrow. "She's a cute kid, Harrington."
Steve mutters a soft “Thanks,” and then there’s a brief pause before he asks "Do you- do you want to hold her?" and Eddie doesn't even hesitate before nodding and giving a quick “Yes!”
He takes off his jacket and vest in one go, knowing the fabric is a little rough, and takes the baby when Steve offers her to him. He holds her close, one hand supporting her and the other resting on her back, and starts to sway a little. "I haven't held a baby in like, two years. I forgot how calming it is." Steve hums and smiles as he sits on a nearby desk. “Yeah, it is.”
They spend the rest of the time just talking about whatever comes to mind, and it's really fucking nice. Eddie learns about the gaggle of kids Steve babysits ("They're all shitheads, but I love them, even when they're using me as a chauffeur.") and Eddie talks a little about his own friends, his band ("I mean being famous is the end goal, but it's also just fun to get together and be creative just for the sake of it, you know?") and before they know it, the bell is ringing to signal the end of the period.
Steve frowns, a cute pout that tugs on the corners of his mouth, and Eddie has to bite back a smile at the expression. He sets a now sleeping Rosie back into her carrier before shrugging on his jacket and vest, and hesitates for a moment.
"Listen, Harrington. I know that we don't really know each other, but I've seen firsthand how tough this single parent shit can be, so. If you ever need a hand, or need someone to watch her so you can get shit done, you can ask me, yeah? No worry, no judgment."
Steve blinks at him, big hazel eyes flicking between Eddie's like he's making an insight check against Eddie's words. He must like what he finds, because he smiles softly and says "Thanks, Munson."
And Eddie shrugs, and smiles in return. "Call me Eddie, man."

For the prompt thing- Eyeliner with Time from LU, please?? 🧍🏻‍♂️
Warriors huffed in frustration as he let his eyeliner drop into his lap. He curled his shaking, swollen hands into fists and dropped them into his lap. Warriors risked a glance into his mirror. There was a thick line of makeup smudged across his eyelid.
Warriors was nearly ready to shove the mirror away and be done with it, but the thought of going without his mask for even a day sent his anxiety spiraling. He closed his eyes, took four deep breaths, then picked up the eyeliner to try again.
He poised his hands in front of his face, but they were shaking even more in his anger than before.
"Captain?" Time asked from behind.
Warriors let his hand flop into his lap again.
"I'll be ready soon," Warriors said. His tone was clipped, but he hoped Time wouldn't notice.
There was a long silence, and Warriors lifted his eyes to the mirror to watch Time's reflection. He had a strange expression on his face that Warriors couldn't quite place, then he silently approached and sat down next to Warriors.
"Can I help?" Time asked.
Warriors took a deep breath and handed his eyeliner to Time. "You know how?"
"I have some experience," Time said.
"I'm not going to be able to do it myself," Warriors said.
Time nodded and gave him a small smile.
"Close," Time said.
Warriors closed his eyes and tilted his head back just so. Time was incredibly gentle wiping off the stray lines and then applying his own. When he was finished, he tapped Warriors' knee and gestured to the mirror. The eyeliner was perfectly placed.
"This looks... where'd you learn to do this so well?" Warriors asked.
"You taught me," Time said. Warriors looked at him in surprise, then cast his mind back to the days of the war.
"Did I?" Warriors asked. He didn't remember every showing Mask how to do makeup. He couldn't imagine the kid sitting still long enough for a lesson in anything.
"Not directly," Time said. "But I watched you almost every day."
"Oh," Warriors said. Time averted his gaze and shrugged.
"I looked up to you, you know," Time said. Then, he abruptly cleared his throat and pushed himself to his feet.
"It came in handy. Malon is a disaster at eyeliner," Time said with a grin.
Warriors huffed a laugh. "Thanks," he said.
"Anytime," Time said.
Edit: THERE IS ART NOW!!!

GMM # 2657
Excuse me for being so dramatic, and yes I know I've been gone for almost three months but I JUST HAD TO. I HAD TO COME BACK AFTER WATCHING THIS EPISODE 😩
WHERE DO I START?
I mean, first of all, I wanted to give a massive praise and thank you to Stevie. Our wonderful Rhink queen for giving us this.
Second, my god, THIS WAS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL WAY TO END GMS. 40th anniversary. Can you imagine? They did that. Holding each other's hand along the way.
Can we talk about Rhett, by the way? The way Rhett looked at Link throughout that whole renewal of vows segment was phenomenal. I could actually imagine him dressed in a suit, facing Link in an actual wedding. This is more than just heart eyes Rhett.
And after that, I knew I KNEW Link wanted to kiss Rhett. But he didn't cave in once again... Rhett was more than willing!!! That hug is still special though. So much emotions.
There's still a lot I want to express but can't find the words. I watched that segment three times now and I can't even watch the More because what else can be better than THAT?
Happy to be back here. Will be scrolling through your posts now.

What would it be like to be roommates with the boys? I imagine it would be easier for Link to give MC healthy food skdjsjs
If you were roommates:
Vic
Once vic was comfortable enough, he’d stop cleaning his personal space. His room would be cluttered with piles upon piles of a combination of clean and dirty laundry. He’d do his best to keep his messes in the communal spaces tidy, but he’s a pretty big offender for leaving dirty dishes in the sink and plastic wrapper trash for his protein shakes on the countertops. He would be a very messy roommate.
More under the cut:
Aside from his messy habits, he’d be pretty helpful in other aspects of your life- like setting up your internet connection to never have advertisements!
He’d arrange your setup to provide you high speed internet access too! You’d have access to whatever you wanted to watch completely ad free. You’d be free to browse the web ad free too!
If you were ever having any trouble with your tech, he’ll fix it in a cinch! :^)
Vic may pop into your room at night and ask if you’re open to hanging out. He doesn’t sleep well by himself, so vic would probably spend a lot more time in your room, rather than his own. Even if that meant crashing on your floor. He’s desperate to be around you.
He just finds your presence soothing.
Vic pays your rent in full. It’s as if you’re a couple! So everyone thinks anyways on account of how close Vic behaves with you.
Everyone in the neighborhood is seen as a threat, so vic makes it absolutely obvious to anyone in the surrounding area that he’s yours. And you’re his.
Avery
Your apartment is now a craft store.
Avery keeps yards of fabric on a rack in the apartment, along with dozens of plastic drawers filled to the brim with sewing supplies.
Since Avery does cosplay commissions, he has to bring his workspace to your apartment.
They’re very tidy, so they make sure to never leave their supplies lying about the apartment when they’re not in use!
Peppa is the messiest contribution to the apartment.
Avery would host weekly movie nights, catering for the little event with their finest snacks and treats!they’d put that baking course to use just for you. They’d wanna binge watch all their favorite anime’s with you, or bad reality shows that were horribly produced. Anything would be good, because ultimately he’s just happy to spend time with you.
Miku decorations. Everywhere he can get away with. Miku shower curtains, Miku posters, Miku figures- they would play a lot of her music while working on the latest commission.
Grimes oblivion Miku cover on loop x10
Considering their gourmet snacks, you’d be eating very well. Whatever your heart desires, Avery would whip it up in the kitchen. They’d share whatever they made, always ensuring there were extras for you to eat. The apartment would always smell of hints of cinnamon and sugar.
Sometimes Avery’s behind on their rent, but only because of poor tipping nights. :(
He bounces back pretty quickly whenever they open new commissions slots.
Tyler
You wouldn’t see him much, rather he wouldn’t be home most days.
Tyler is an incredibly independent person, so getting him to agree to be your roommate would be very difficult in the first place.
Once living together, it’s as if you never had a roommate. His room would be so barren anyone who’d visit would mistake his room for a guest room. You could even use it at such, since he’s hardly home. Tyler isn’t a materialistic person, so he hardly has many clothes. What he does possess is a basic outfit to change in and out of, and a spare set for when it needs to be washed.
On the rare chance he is spending the night, not a sound omits from his bedroom. Tyler holds up in his room until he’s sure you’re asleep, and only then will he feel comfortable enough doing basic survival tasks such as eating and showering.
Tyler is extremely tidy, leaving no trace behind. He ensures to keep his room clean despite never really using it. The only space he actually would utilize would be the air vents.
He pays rent on time, never makes a peep, and makes himself scarce. The ideal roommate.
Link
Link would absolutely encourage you to join him for meals as your roommate, offering healthy alternatives to your favorite dishes. If you were set on eating takeout, he’d relent occasionally on the condition you ate something green with your meal.
There’d be lots of books moved into your shared apartment. Link owns a small library’s worth in books, so chances are he’d fill your shared home with hundreds of copies of various titles. He’d especially pride himself on his non fiction section.
Link does a bit of gardening, so his green thumb would be ever so present in your shared home. He’d grow all of your favorite flowers, ensuring your home was blooming annually every season.
At the end of a long day, link enjoys unwinding in your living room. He enjoys listening to records on his gramophone with a hot cup of jasmine tea.
If you leave your door unlocked at night, he can’t help himself from laying in the empty spot next to you, watching your sleeping form until sunrise. How could he sleep when you were right there? Your peaceful sleeping face was mesmerizing, the sounds of your breathing- your swirling scent that flooded his senses- your soft skin that glided underneath his fingertips. You, You, You!!
Your things would turn up missing. Mostly miscellaneous things, like forgotten jewelry, old pairs of underwear, and some of your nearly empty deodorant containers or your cologne/perfume bottles.
Good luck finding your things. He’s very organized. :)
Link never misses a payment, he always pays in full.
The neighbors are starting to complain about the overgrowth from your home.. and that smell.. it’s strong, as much as it is disorienting. Link enjoys growing various plants of different shapes and sizes. One of them must be omitting that putrid smell.

Another fic with my one zelda au, where Link is corrupted and forced to hunt Zelda. Takes place sometime after this fic here.
Even corrupted heroes need their sleep... which luckily gives Link a bit of a break. Along with more than he expects.
————————————————————
Thunder rumbles, and Link drifts into awareness.
It takes him a moment to get himself to move, even when the sound of a sword swinging drifts through the air, and he slowly blinks his eyes open and looks around.
The sky is grey above his head, thick with clouds that threaten to release a steady rain. Link carefully sits up, a deep, heavy ache in his chest, and realizes the ground around him is a vast expanse of water, stretching as far as he can see. Somehow he isn’t wet though, and he touches a hesitant hand to the liquid, tilting his head at the odd feeling.
It strikes him then that he’s moving of his own volition, no darkness instructing his steps, no whispered orders aiming his sword.
He can think clearly.
Link takes in a shuddering breath, almost unable to believe it. He doesn’t remember how long he’s been under Vaati’s control, but it feels like it’s been weeks. And he’s finally able to move, and breathe, and stand up without a voice screaming in his head that he needs to kill all of his master’s enemies.
The sounds of a fight ring out again, and Link looks to his side, eyes widening at the sight.
A mass of darkness lurks mere feet away, swirling with faint dashes of purple and red. The dread that hits Link when he sees it is like an arrow to his chest, but then he sees something else.
There’s a man moving among the shadows, moving so fast that Link can’t easily focus on him. From where Link is standing it looks like he’s faintly glowing, green and gold, and his sword flashes in the light as he swings it. The mass of shadows the man is currently fighting lets out an odd howl, and he slices it neatly in two, before turning to another behind him.
Link would help him, but he feels rooted in place, unable to do anything but watch as the glowing man dispenses the shadows with terrifying efficiency.
He thrusts his sword into the last heaving mass of darkness, and Link hears a faint wail as it shrivels away, the space finally clear of enemies.
The man exhales, taking a moment to breathe, and Link isn’t sure what to do.
He’s saved from deciding when the man turns towards him, and Link is struck with the sheer presence he exudes, something ancient and strong, like one of the towering trees in Faron’s woods. He isn’t sure whether to bow or try to fight, but the decision is taken from him when the man lowers his sword, and looks at him fondly.
“Hello, Link,” he greets, voice gentle, but strong. “I’ll admit I’m somewhat surprised you’re here.”
Link narrows his eyes at the odd familiarity, and the man hums.
“I apologize, this must be strange to you. You’re asleep,” the man explains, and Link nods, relaxing a bit. Ah. A dream, then.
He’s a little surprised he can dream in his current state, but he won’t complain. Being able to trust his actions and make decisions for himself, even in nothing but a dream that won’t last, is extremely relieving.
Apparently he hasn’t lost all of his humanity.
“Don’t be mistaken though. You’re asleep, yes, but this isn’t... exactly a dream,” the man says, as if reading his thoughts. “Which is why I was surprised to see you here.”
“And where is here?” Link asks quietly, breaking his usual silence.
The man sighs, resting his hands on his sword as he gently plants it into the ground before him. “That is a complicated question. I guess the simplest way to put it would be... inside you. Deep in your very being. Your mind, or soul. Spirit perhaps. The part of you that makes you, you.”
Link must make a face, because the man chuckles, a warm smile pulling at his cheeks.
“I know that’s strange to hear. It’s very odd that you’re this deep in your own psyche.” His face turns suddenly serious, brows creasing his previously warm expression. “It’s doubtless a product of the corruption that is attempting to fully overtake you.”
A chill runs over Link at the words, and the spot on his back where Vaati hit him with the spell aches with a bitter cold.
His legs tremble, and suddenly he’s on his knees, the heaviness he experienced upon first waking up here hitting him again. It’s worse then the first time though, and Link grits his teeth, trying to fight through it.
The glowing man looks at him in deep concern, but then a swirling mass of deep darkness wells up from the ground, approaching them both with an unholy moan.
He whirls around and slices at it, and Link is unable to do much except watch him fight. He’s not sure how the man is landing hits on a literal mass of darkness, but fight he does, and he fights well. The more the man slices at the darkness, the better Link feels, and the thick shadows are no match for his incredible swordsmanship.
They’re soon dispensed with a wail, and Link can breathe again, though shakily.
The man lowers his sword with a sigh, and returns to Link’s side, offering him a hand up. Link takes it, a warmth running through him at the contact, and the man doesn’t let go once he’s upright, looking into his eyes with such an intense sadness that Link isn’t sure what to do.
“You are in quite the difficult situation,” he says gently, and Link looks away.
“I was attacked with dark magic,” he quietly admits. “In my waking hours it forces me to obey its master. I’m powerless to stop it.”
The spirit nods, a grieved look on his face. “Yes. I know. The corruption runs deep. It was a very cleverly designed spell... it cut straight to your spirit, deep enough that I have to actively fight it off. It’s attempting to corrupt even me. You’ve shielded me well so far, but I don’t know how long I’ll last.”
Link looks back at the man, feeling a strange recognition in his face, the brightness in his eyes, the kindness in his gaze. There’s a feeling of other about the man, something dangerous as a lighting strike, but also something so familiar and warm that it aches.
“Who are you?” Link asks.
The man smiles gently, and lifts his hand, placing it on Link’s shoulder.
“I’m you. I’m all of us. I’m Courage,” he says, and the word strikes deep, a warmth blossoming in Link’s middle like a flower in spring. “I’m the Spirit of the Hero, forged in fire and trial. I’m a gift, and a burden, one that emerges only in great time of need. I’m you. You’re me.”
A tear falls down Link’s cheek, and the man tenderly wipes it away, his touch like that of a parent.
“Not many heroes meet me face-to-face during their life,” he admits. “You’re one of very few... I only wish our meeting could be under better circumstances. Unfortunately you have to take what you can get sometimes.”
“I’m no hero,” Link interrupts, speaking around the lump in his throat.
“...No?”
The spirit raises an eyebrow, and Link swallows. “I allowed myself to be ambushed and corrupted, I fought against my fellow knights— I don’t know the fate of any of them, but some of them must be dead. I’ve harmed innocents. Vaati is planning to use me to hunt down the princess herself. What’s heroic about any of that?”
“You didn’t want to do any of those things, did you?” The spirit asks in a firm voice.
Link slowly shakes his head.
“That’s what I thought. The fact that you’re still fighting now is a testament to your nature,” he says gently, cupping Link’s cheek. “If you weren’t a hero, you already would have given in.”
Link doesn’t reply, not willing to argue, but not entirely willing to believe him either. Zelda may have believed he was a hero, but all he’s done is fail from the moment she told him so.
What kind of a hero fails before he even begins?
The spirit searches his gaze a moment, then lets out a heavy sigh, dropping his hand back to Link’s shoulder.
“Our enemy was cleverer than usual this time around. He knew that if he corrupted you, Hyrule’s defenses would be severely weakened,” he says more quietly. “He hit us where it hurts. Even now the darkness is attempting to corrupt me. If it succeeds, you will remain a servant of darkness forever.”
Link stills, and the man squeezes his shoulder.
“Take courage, Link. You are strong, and so is your kingdom, and princess. We will not stop in our fight against the darkness,” he says firmly, and Link nods, blinking back the sting in his eyes. Hero or not, he’s not planning on giving up just yet. “You’ve been given a hard fight, harder than most, but I know that you can endure until you are freed.”
“Do you have any advice?” Link asks quietly, wiping his sleeve across his face.
“Our enemy may overestimate himself with you in his clutches. If he does, it will be up to you and your princess to take that opportunity if it arises,” he says, and Link nods. He isn’t really sure if that will ever happen, but he’ll remain hopeful just the same.
For Zelda’s sake, at least.
The spirit’s expression softens again as he looks at Link, and he glances up at the sky, then looks back at him.
“You’ll wake soon I’m afraid,” he says, and Link swallows thickly, stomach churning as the clouds above them darken.
It feels like he just got here. He doesn’t want to go back to being a mindless soldier, locked in darkness and unable to resist. The thought of being under Vaati’s control for the foreseeable future makes him want to curl up in a ball, as cowardly as that sounds, but waking from even this brief comfort threatens to make him wail.
It must show on his face, for the man gives his shoulders one last bracing squeeze.
“Courage, little brother. You’re not alone,” he says, and gives Link a hug, one so soft and safe that Link feels like he’s a child again, held in his parents’s arms.
The spirit holds him for several long moments, and Link closes his eyes. He can’t remember the last time he was hugged like this, and the spirit is warm, and safe. Normally he’d bristle at hugging someone who’s essentially a stranger to him, but this is different, and he...
He needed this.
A light kiss is pressed to his hair, and then the spirit pulls back, giving him an unimaginably fond look.
“I don’t know if we’ll be able to speak again,” he cautions, and the edges of Link’s vision suddenly darken somewhat. “But I will be here fighting all the same. Don’t lose hope.”
“Thank you,” Link says in a stronger voice than he thought he was capable of, and the spirit unsheathes his sword, the hilt glowing bright.
He smiles back at him. “You’re welcome.”
Darkness rears from the water at their feet yet again, increasing in the edges of Link’s vision, nearly overtaking his sight. He stumbles to his knees, and one of the last things he sees is the spirit thrusting his sword into the shadows, fighting for them both.
And the darkness overtakes him once again.
